COL BKB: Arizona 66, Utah St. 53

BOISE, Idaho, March 17 (UPI) -- Salim Stoudamire and Channing Frye awoke sluggish Arizona Thursday night and the Wildcats downed Utah State, 66-53, in the NCAA Tournament.

The victory put the third-seeded Wildcats into the second round of the Chicago region.

Arizona trailed by three at the half, but Frye scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half and Stoudamire had 17 overall.

Utah State was led by Jaycee Carroll with 18.

The Wildcats began the second half with a 16-2 surge and had control the rest of the way.

Frye scored seven of the 16 points and Stoudamire had five.

Utah State made the tournament this year as the champions of the Big West Conference tourney after finishing second to Pacific in the regular-season campaign.

The Aggies failed to make the event last season with a 25-3 record.
