Vikings sign former Packers safety

MINNEAPOLIS, March 12 (UPI) -- Former Green Bay Packers free safety Darren Sharper signed as a free agent Saturday with the Minnesota Vikings.

Sharper, just released by Green Bay, had been the Packers' starting free safety the last six seasons. Last season, he started 13 of the 15 regular season games he appeared in and had 77 tackles and four interceptions.

The one game he missed was because of a sprained knee.

Sharper, 29, is a two-time Pro-Bowl selection and ranks fifth on Green Bay's all-time interceptions list with 36. In 2004, Sharper became one of four players to lead the Packers in intercaptions for at least five seasons.
