Eagles sign quarterback Mike McMahon

PHILADELPHIA, March 11 (UPI) -- Former Detroit quarterback Mike McMahon has joined the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 26-year-old McMahon signed a two-year contract Friday. He is expected to compete with Koy Detmer for the No. 2 spot behind starting quarterback Donovan McNabb.

McMahon, who has been in the NFL four years, all with the Lions, says he likes the Eagles' offense.

"It's a great offense, very explosive. I like this scheme and the things a quarterback can do with it. I think it's going to work out very well for me here."

McMahon, who has passed for 1,709 yards and 10 touchdowns in the NFL, started several games in his first two seasons with Detroit. He played in only one game last season.
