Neuheisel wins settlement of suit

SEATTLE, March 7 (UPI) -- Former football coach Rick Neuheisel has reached a $4.7 million settlement in his lawsuit against the University of Washington and the NCAA.

Neuheisel claimed he was wrongfully fired from his job after it was revealed he participated in an NCAA basketball pool. The school claimed his involvement was against its policy and he later lied to NCAA investigators about his part in it.

He charged the NCAA improperly influenced Washington administrators to fire him, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

The settlement was announced in King County Superior Court Monday morning after five weeks of testimony in the trial.

Neuheisel will receive a cash payment of $2.5 million from NCAA. The school will forgive a $1.5 million loan he had earlier been asked to pay back and it will pay him $500,000 in cash and $200,000 in interest.
