Brees signs for a year, Jets get Blaylock

NEW YORK, March 4 (UPI) -- Drew Brees re-signed with San Diego for one year and Derrick Blaylock joined the New York Jets Friday, the third day of the NFL free-agent signing period.

Brees, the Chargers starting quarterback and the NFL's 2004 Comeback Player of the Year, had been an unrestricted free agent. Blaylock has been the backup to Kansas City Chiefs running back Priest Holmes and will have the same role with the Jets, playing behind star Curtis Martin.

Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter re-signed with Philadelphia after considering an offer from the Chiefs.

The Jets also signed defensive lineman Lance Legree, formerly of the New York Giants, and the Giants got offensive tackle Kareem McKenzie, who played for the Jets for the past three years.

Mike Gandy, an offensive lineman who started 30 games for the Chicago Bears in the past four seasons, signed with the Buffalo Bills.

Tampa Bay signed linebacker Jermaine Taylor.
