Calcavecchia leads by a stroke

TUCSON, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Mark Calcavecchia capped a day of low scoring Friday by firing a 7-under 65 that boosted him to a one-shot lead at the Chrysler Classic of Tucson.

Calcavecchia finished 36 holes at 15-under 129, a stroke in front of first-round co-leader Billy Mayfair. Tied for third at 131 were Geoff Ogilvy, Lucas Glover and Gavin Coles.

This tournament gives players seeking advancement on the PGA Tour a big chance since the world's top 64 golfers are competing in the Match Play Championship.

Two former winners of that event, Steve Stricker and Kevin Sutherland, shared sixth place at 132.

It took a score of 5-under 139 to make the 36-hole cut. After putting himself in position to make the cut with an opening-round 69, David Duval shot a 75 Friday. The former No. 1 ranked player in the world has yet to survive a cut this season.
