Chiefs release Vonnie Holliday

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- The Kansas City Chiefs released veteran defensive end Vonnie Holliday in a salary cap move.

"Vonnie and his agent knew that in his initial contract with the Chiefs that the large roster bonus coming due this week would probably preclude his continuation with the Kansas City Chiefs," Chiefs President Carl Peterson said Tuesday. "We appreciate Vonnie's efforts both on and off the field while in Kansas City and wish him success in the future."

The 6-5, 290-pound Holliday was a first-round draft pick by Green Bay out of North Carolina in 1998.

In two seasons with the Chiefs, Holliday, a pass-rushing specialist, recorded 93 tackles (48 solo) and 5 1/2 sacks.
