Venus breezes past Clijsters

ANTWERP, Belgium, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Venus Williams coasted past Kim Clijsters and into the semifinals Friday at the Proximus Diamond Games.

It was a meeting of former top-ranked players with Clijsters demonstrating she has some distance to go to regain her previous No. 1 form. It was just her fourth match in nine months after being sidelined by wrist surgery.

Williams produced a 6-2, 6-3 victory that set up semifinal match against defending French Open champ Anastasia Myskina. Williams has a 6-2 career record against Clijsters.

Amelie Mauresmo, the top seed in this tournament, will play Alicia Molik in the other semifinal.
