Davenport, Sharapova to meet in Tokyo fina

TOKYO, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Lindsay Davenport and Maria Sharapova meet Sunday in the final of the Toray Pan Pacific Open.

The top-seeded Davenport is trying for her third straight Pan Pacific title and her fifth overall in the event. She advanced Saturday with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) victory over Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Sharapova, the second seed and reigning Wimbledon champ, beat Shinobu Asagoe of Japan, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). The teenage Russian goes after her eighth WTA crown on Sunday.

Both Davenport and Sharapova lost to Serena Williams in last week's Australian Open.
