Irwin leads in Turtle Bay Championship

KAHUKU, Hawaii, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Hale Irwin fired a six-under 66 to take a two-shot lead after two rounds of the Turtle Bay Championship in Kahuku, Hawaii, Saturday.

Irwin, the four-time defending champion who won the event from 2000 to 2003, completed two rounds at 11-under-par 133. The event, played at the Palmer Course at Turtle Bay Resort, was not played last year because it shifted from a late-fall event to an early season event.

Allen Doyle had a four-under 68 and stood alone in second place at nine-under-par 135.

Keith Fergus and Gil Morgan had rounds of 69 and shared third place with Dana Quigley.

Should Irwin hold on and obtain his 41st Champions Tour win, it would be the first time in PGA Tour or Champions Tour history that a player has won the same event five consecutive times.
