NBA: New Jersey 104, Boston 98

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Vince Carter scored 25 points Friday night and Travis Best had 24 as New Jersey fought off Boston, 104-98.

Jason Kidd narrowly missed a triple-double with 14 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

Boston, which had a two-game winning streak snapped, was led by Paul Pierce's 22 points.

The Celtics, after trailing by 13 in the fourth, got back in it with a 10-2 run. But a key three-pointer by Kidd repulsed the charge.
