Oregon hires former Brigham Young coach

EUGENE, Ore., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Oregon Coach Mike Bellotti said Tuesday the Ducks have named former Brigham Young Coach Gary Crowton as their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Crowton was the head coach at BYU for the last four seasons (2001-04), but resigned from that position after the 2004 campaign.

In four seasons, Crowton compiled a record of 26-23 at BYU. He began his tenure by leading the Cougars to 12 straight wins and their first-ever outright MWC championship in 2001. BYU finished 12-2 in '01 and Crowton was named MWC Coach of the Year.

Crowton, 47, was the head coach at Louisiana Tech from 1996-1998 and guided the Bulldogs to a 21-13 mark. He was also the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears (1999-2000) before taking over a BYU program that had been under the direction of one of the all-time winningest coaches, LaVell Edwards.
