NBA: Dallas 98, New Jersey 93

DALLAS, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Dirk Nowitzki moved within reach of the career 10,000-point mark Saturday night and helped Dallas fight off New Jersey 98-93.

Nowitzki scored 26 points and climbed to 9,998 for his career. Jerry Stackhouse added 20 points and Michael Finley had 16.

All five starters for both teams scored in double figures. The Nets were led by Vince Carter with 29.

New Jersey's Jason Kidd had the 61st triple-double of his career with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.

Dallas opened a 14-point cushion with four minutes left and held off a late New Jersey flurry.

It was New Jersey's fourth straight loss and Dallas halted a two-game skid.
