Maruyama leads Sony Open

HONOLULU, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Shigeki Maruyama fired a 5-under 65 Friday and grabbed a one-shot lead after two rounds of the Sony Open.

Michelle Wie completed her second appearance on the PGA Tour with a struggling effort and did not come close to making the cut.

Wie, 15, missed the cut by just one shot at this event last year, but a triple-bogey early in her round Friday doomed her effort.

Maruyama was at 8-under 132 for 36 holes with Justin Rose and Brett Quigley at 133.

A veteran group was tied for fourth at 135 -- Paul Azinger, Jeff Sluman, Tom Lehman, Andrew Magee and Robert Gamez.

World No. 1 Vijay Singh eagled his final hole to move into a share of 11th place at 137 while Ernie Els, who missed a series of putts inside 10 feet, was at 138.
