Schnyder beats Stosur for Gold Coast title

GOLD COAST, Australia, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Patty Schnyder of Switzerland rallied for a three-set victory over Australia's Samantha Stosur Saturday to win the Uncle Tobys Hardcourts tournament.

The second-seeded Schnyder won 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 to earn her ninth career WTA title.

The third set remained on serve until the 11th game, when Schnyder roared back from 40-0 down to break. She then served out the match to finish it in just under two hours.

The 20-year-old Stosur, a semifinalist in this event last year, was playing in her first WTA Tour final.
