CINCINNATI, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Jason Maxiell scored 23 points Thursday night as No. 20 Cincinnati opened its Conference USA campaign with an 83-54 win over DePaul.
The Bearcats (12-1) bounced back from its first loss of the season, a setback to No. 1 Illinois. Armein Kirkland added 18 points for Cincinnati, who dominated the first half en route to a 43-20 advantage.
DePaul (8-4, 0-1) was led by 12 points from Quemont Greer. DePaul had won its previous three games.
Cincinnati shot 51 percent from the floor while DePaul struggled from long range, making only four of 24 three-point attempts.
