O'Neal's suspension officially reduced

NEW YORK, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- A federal judge officially reduced the suspension of Indiana forward Jermaine O'Neal on Thursday.

A ruling by U.S. District Judge George B. Daniels was made final, thus eliminating the remaining 10 games of O'Neal's NBA-imposed suspension.

NBA Commissioner David Stern originally suspended O'Neal for 25 games as a result of the brawl that broke out near the end of an Indiana-Detroit game Nov. 19.

An arbitrator let all the other suspensions stand, but he reduced O'Neal's ban from 25 to 15 games. The NBA appealed that decision, saying the arbitrator had no jurisdiction in the matter, but the arbitrator's ruling was upheld by Daniels.
