Chiefs place Holliday on IR

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Kansas City defensive end Vonnie Holliday has been placed on the season-ending injured reserve list for a right groin injury.

The seven-year veteran joined the Chiefs as an unrestricted free agent from Green Bay in 2003 and has recorded 13 tackles (nine solo), four quarterback pressures and two passes defensed in nine games this season.

He suffered the injury Nov. 28 against San Diego.

Rookie Jared Allen has started the last three games in his absence.

Wide receiver Richard Smith was promoted Friday from the team's practice squad.
