COL FB: Hawaii 59, Ala.-Birmingham 40

HONOLULU, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Timmy Chang threw for four scores and ran for another in his final college game Friday as Hawaii downed Alabama-Birmingham in the Hawaii Bowl, 59-40.

Chang, the NCAA's all-time leading passer, completed 31 of 46 passes for 405 yards and left the game with six minutes remaining to a standing ovation from the crowd at Aloha Stadium.

Alabama-Birmingham's Darrell Hackney threw for 406 yards and two touchdowns as the teams combined for more than 1,000 yards of offense.

Chang threw touchdown passes of 74 yards to Jason Rivers, 19 to Gerald Welch and 13 to Chad Owens in the first half, but the Warriors had only a 28-26 lead at intermission.

In the first seven minutes of the third quarter, Chang found Owens for a 15-yard touchdown and Owens scored again on a 59-yard punt return.

Rivers caught 11 passes for 148 yards and Owens had eight receptions for 113. The scoring in the four-hour game finally ended when Hawaii's Britton Komine returned an onside kickoff 43 yards for a touchdown with 1:55 to play.

Hawaii finished 8-5 and Alabama-Birmingham 7-5.
