Stephon Marbury keyed the fourth-quarter comeback with 10 of his 27 points while Jerome Williams scored 13 and put the Knicks in front for good in the extra period.
Houston hit a three-pointer at the end of regulation to complete the New York comeback.
Philadelphia had a three-game winning streak snapped. Allen Iverson paced the 76ers with 24 points and played despite a fractured right index finger.
