MEMPHIS, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Veteran NBA Coach Mike Fratello was named coach of the Memphis Grizzlies Thursday, succeeding Hubie Brown.

Brown retired last week, citing "unexpected health-related issues."

Fratello coached the Atlanta Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers, compiling a 572-462 record over 13 seasons.

He has been a television basketball analyst since 1999, first with NBC and then with TNT.

"Mike is a winner ... he will continue the spirit, energy and respect that this team has earned under Hubie's leadership," said Jerry West, the team's president of basketball operations.

Lionel Hollins was interim coach of the Grizzlies after Brown's departure. The Grizzlies lost each of their four games under Hollins.
