TORONTO, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- The Toronto Blue Jays are buying the stadium they've been playing in for 16 years.
The baseball team announced Monday it has reached an agreement to purchase the SkyDome from Sportsco International.
The purchase price is about $21.2 million (CAD25 million).
"The purchase of SkyDome is an opportunity for us to acquire a tremendous asset at an extremely attractive price, but more importantly, we will now have significantly better control over our product and the fan experience," said Paul Godfrey, the team's president and chief executive officer.
The 50,000-seat stadium, which has a retractable roof, opened in 1989. It is also used for Canadian Canadian Football league games, concerts and other events.
