Dolphins' Fiedler out for season

DAVIE, Fla., Nov. 24 (UPI) -- The Miami Dolphins placed quarterback Jay Fiedler on the season-ending injured reserve list Wednesday because of a neck injury.

Team doctors said Fiedler has a herniated disc that prevented him from playing again in the 2004 season.

Fiedler reinjured his neck after replacing the injured A.J. Feeley in a 24-17 loss to Seattle Sunday. Fiedler previously had been the starter.

The Dolphins said on their Web site that Dr. Robert Watkins, a spine specialist in Los Angeles, advised Fiedler to give the injury time to heal.

"Jay has performed well for us this year and has proven to be an excellent leader, but we feel that his health is the most important thing," General Manager Rick Spielman said.

"The best thing was to sit out the rest of the year and be ready and healthy to go next year," Fiedler said.

Fiedler was 101-of-190 for 1,186 yards and seven touchdowns in eight games. He was intercepted eight times.
