COL BKB: North Carolina 86, BYU 50

MAUI, Hawaii, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- The No. 3 North Carolina Tar Heels defeated Brigham Young, 86-50, Monday in the first round of the Maui Invitational.

Sean May scored 18 points, Rashad McCants 13, and Jawad Williams 11 for the Tar Heels (1-1), who rebounded from a 77-66 setback to Santa Clara on Friday.

The Tar Heels will play the winner of the Tennessee/Stanford game in the next round on Tuesday.

North Carolina raced out to a 25-3. May had eight points in the early going and Scott hit a pair of 3-pointers for the early 22-point margin.
