ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Mike San Filippo took the lead at the Champions Tour qualifying tourney Wednesday by firing a 7-under 65.
San Filippo is making his third bid to qualify for the Champions Tour, having missed by a single shot in 2003. He finished his opening round Wednesday with three straight birdies.
Stewart Ginn, who has been a Champions Tour member but who failed to retain his card this year, shot a 72. Bob Duval, father of former world No. 1 David Duval, struggled to a 76.
Only the top seven players in this six-day event will earn full playing rights for next year's tour.
