Former Ohio State coach sues school

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Jim O'Brien, fired by Ohio State as its basketball coach last June, has sued the school for the remaining $3.4 million on his contract.

O'Brien admitted he paid a recruit $6,000 and Ohio State officials, saying he violated his contract by breaking NCAA rules, dismissed him.

But O'Brien alleged in the lawsuit that since the NCAA did not investigate Ohio State nor punish the school, his contract was not violated.

O'Brien's contract with Ohio State paid him $864,000 per year and he had five years left on the deal.
