SEATTLE, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Don Baylor was named the Seattle Mariners' hitting coach for the 2005 season Tuesday.
Baylor spent the past two seasons as the bench coach for the New York Mets. Before than he spent two years as manager of the Chicago Cubs.
Baylor, 55, was the first manager of the Colorado Rockies, a job that lasted six seasons (1993-98). He was named National League Manager of the Year in 1955.
Baylor was hitting coach with the Atlanta Braves (1999), St. Louis Cardinals (1992) and the Milwaukee Brewers (1989).
During a 19-year playing career (1970-88), Baylor was with Baltimore, Oakland, California, Boston, Minnesota and the New York Yankees. He was a career .290 hitter with 338 home runs.
