NFL: Washington 17, Detroit 10

DETROIT, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Clinton Portis sparked Washington on the ground and through the air Sunday as the Redskins beat the Detroit Lions, 17-10.

Portis threw a touchdown pass to Laveranues Coles and rushed for 147 yards for the Redskisnn (3-5).

Walt Harris returned a blocked punt for a score in the third quarter. The Redskins quarterback Mark Brunell completed only six of 17 passes for 58 yards.

Joey Harrington completed 26 of 52 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown for the Lions (4-4).

Az-Zahir Hakim caught seven passes for 120 yards for Detroit, which rushed for only 64 yards.

Coles' 15-yard catch from Portis made the score 10-3 less than five minutes into the third. Six minutes later, Harris returned the blocked punt 13 yards to make it 17-3.
