Earnhardt Jr. wins NASCAR race in Phoenix

PHOENIX, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the Checker Auto Parts 500 Nextel Cup race at the Phoenix International Raceway Sunday for the second year in a row.

Earnhardt's Chevrolet finished 1.431 seconds ahead of runner-up Ryan Newman.

The victory was Earnhardt's sixth of the season and 15th of his NASCAR Cup career.

Jeff Gordon was third, Kevin Harvick fourth, and Kasey Kahne fifth.
