Winning is everything to Francona

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox made history on many fronts during this year's playoffs, but to Manager Terry Francona, only one thing matters.

"All I care about is that we won," Francona said following Boston's completion of a four-game sweep of St. Louis in the World Series.

"That's the only important thing. We beat some really good teams under adverse conditions. I am sure there are people dancing in the streets of Boston and for that I'm glad."

Francona said he did not even feel comfortable talking about any one player winning the MVP award, which went to Boston's Manny Ramirez.

"We had a bunch of MVPs," the manager said. "We had a lot of good players play up to their expectations. But we had role players come in and do amazing things to help us win.

"That's how you win, when you have players do special things."
