Garcia, Lara lead in Spain

CADIZ, Spain, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Sergio Garcia and Jose Manuel Lara shared the first-round lead in Spain's Volvo Masters Thursday at 4-under-par 67.

Garcia, ranked 10th in the world, could have had the lead alone but missed birdie putts within 10 feet on the last two holes.

Lara managed his low score despite being stung by a bee while playing the fifth hole.

Strong winds buffeted the Valderrama Golf Club during the round.

Brian Davis and Alastair Forsyth tied for third place at 68 and Luke Donald was among four players at 69.

"I really enjoy it when a course is tough," Garcia said. "There are some places where if you don't make every putt you don't have a chance of winning. Here, you don't need to make everything, shoot even or one-under and you're still in the tournament."

Lara notched several birdies after the bee sting.

"I have a bad cold and then the bee stung me, so maybe I played with less pressure because my mind was on other things," Lara said.
