LONDON, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Olympic-scarred British runner Paula Radcliffe has announced plans to run in the New York Marathon, The Telegraph said Tuesday.
The world record holder made the decision to race in New York Nov. 7 after returning to her home in England following a four-and-a-half week training camp in Flagstaff, Ariz.
The race will be her first since she tearfully dropped out of the 10,000 meters and marathon in the Olympics in Athens.
It will be Radcliffe's fifth marathon, with her first three producing victories, including world fastest marks in Chicago two years ago this month and London in April 2003.
She will face a strong field including Deena Kastor, the American who took bronze in Athens, and Benita Johnson, the world cross-country champion.
Radcliffe's record from the London race stands at 2:15:25, but the New York course is much tougher. The fastest time in the marathon was registered last year when Margaret Okayo lowered her own mark to 2:22:31.
