MLB: Boston 4, St. Louis 1

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox moved into a three-games-to-none lead in the World Series Tuesday night with a 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals,

Pedro Martinez worked seven shutout innings and Manny Ramirez drove in a pair of runs in Game 3 of the best-of-seven Series.

Martinez retired the final 14 batters he faced. He gave up three hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

The Cardinals did not have a baserunner after the third inning until Larry Walker homered off Keith Foulke with one out in the ninth.

Ramirez homered in the first inning for Boston. Bill Mueller and Trot Nixon also knocked in runs.

St. Louis starter Jeff Suppan left with two outs in the fifth inning. He was charged with four runs on eight hits and four walks.

The Cardinals must win four straight. Boston, in this year's ALCS is the only major league baseball team ever to rebound from a 3-0 series deficit.
