MLB: Boston 11, St. Louis 9

BOSTON, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Mark Bellhorn's eighth-inning two-run homer powered the Boston Red Sox to an 11-9 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game One of the World Series.

Bellhorn scored four times and David Ortiz had a homer and four RBI as the Red Sox seek their first championship in 86 years.

The Cardinals tied the game at 9-9 with two runs in the top of the eighth thanks to back-to-back plays errors by Boston left fielder Manny Ramirez.

In the bottom of the eighth, Jason Varitek reached on a one-out fielding error by Cardinals' shortstop Edgar Renteria. Then Bellhorn drove the ball down the right field line off Julian Tavarez.

Keith Foulke (1-0), who entered the game in the eighth inning, got the victory. He allowed two hits and a walk in 1 2/3 shutout innings.

Game Two of the World Series is Sunday night. Boston will start ALCS Game Six winner Curt Schilling. The Cardinals will start Matt Morris.
