The American athlete was awarded the medal in the all-around competition at the 2004 Games in Athens, Greece, but an appeal was filed by one of his competitors after judges admitted that a scoring error had been made.

South Korean Yang Tae Young, who finished third in the competition, says he should receive the gold medal instead of Hamm.

The finish in the all-around was the closest in the history of the event.
