Giants' Tim Carter done with hip injury

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Wide receiver Tim Carter of the New York Giants will miss the remainder of the season because of a hip injury.

Carter suffered a fractured hip socket during the third quarter of Sunday's 26-10 victory at Dallas while diving for a pass from Kurt Warner in the end zone and becoming entangled with Cowboys' defensive back Tony Dixon.

"We're very, very disappointed," Coach Tom Coughlin said on the team's Web site. "Here's a young man that has done nothing but made progress. His game has definitely been improved."

Carter, a second-round draft pick out of Auburn in 2002, had 12 receptions for 182 yards and one touchdown.

This is the third consecutive season during which Carter has been sidelined by injuries.

As a rookie in 2002, he suffered a torn Achilles tendon at Minnesota and played only five games. Last year, he missed four games and again went on injured reserve because of concussions.
