LOS ANGELES, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Signing slugging third baseman Adrian Beltre is a high priority for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Their season ended Sunday with a 6-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4 of the National League Division series.
Beltre, 25, led the majors with 48 home runs in 2004. His 200 hits made him just the eighth hitter in team history to reach that plateau.
"I've said all along, (signing Beltre) is a top priority for us, and I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure that he stays in a Dodgers uniform," said General Manager Paul DePodesta.
Beltre batted .334 with 121 runs-batted-in, 376 total bases (a team record) and a .629 slugging percentage.
"Looking back at when I was asked that question in spring training, I'd be lying if I said that I knew I would be having the season I had," Beltre said Monday on the team's Web site.
