NFL: Denver 20, Carolina 17

DENVER, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Jake Plummer threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Ashley Lelie with 9:42 left to play Sunday to give the Denver Broncos a 20-17 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Reuben Droughns carried 30 times for 193 yards and also caught a touchdown as the Broncos (4-1) earned their third straight victory. The four-year pro, who was filling in for an injured Quentin Griffin, had just 127 career yards over 44 NFL games coming in.

Plummer was 17-of-29 for 226 yards and two TDs but was also intercepted twice.

An interception Julius Peppers in the third quarter led to a Jake Delhomme one-yard touchdown run that put the Panthers ahead 17-13.

Delhomme completed 13-of-20 throws for 173 yards and a touchdown for Carolina (1-3). Rookie Keary Colbert had 115 yards on four receptions, including a 26-yard TD in the second quarter.
