M. Schumacher wins record 13th F1 race

SUZUKA, Japan, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Michael Schumacher won Sunday's Formula One Japanese Grand Prix as his Ferrari finished 14 seconds ahead of runner-up Ralf Schumacher.

The victory was Michael Schumacher's record 13th of the season and 83rd of his F1 career.

The champion and brother Ralf began to open up a gap on the field right from the green flag. By lap three, Michael Schumacher had built a 2.7-second margin on Ralf and a 9.1-second lead over third-place Jenson Button.

Michae Schumacher now has scored a record 146 points beating his own mark of 144 which he set in 2002 when he collected 11 wins

Jenson Button, Takuma Sato, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, Juan Montoya and Giancarlo Fisichella completed the points-scoring positions.

The final race of the 2004 F1 season, the Brazilian Grand Prix, is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 24.
