TAMPA BAY, Fla., Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Second-year pro Chris Simms will be the starting quarterback Sunday when Tampa Bay hosts New Orleans.
He was named the starter Wednesday by Coach Jon Gruden.
Veteran Brad Johnson now becomes the No. 2 signal-caller. Under his guidance, Tampa Bay's offense has sputtered.
"I just want to get in there and maybe give a little spark, change things up and give us a new attitude," Simms said. "I played a lot in the preseason and I know how to play quarterback. I'm not going to make too many mistakes."
Simms, the Buccaneers' third-round draft pick in 2003 out of Texas, has played twice this season. In last week's 16-13 loss to Denver, his only pass was incomplete. For the season, he is 21-of-33 passing for 175 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
He also has 13 yards rushing on four carries.
