BBM: Baltimore 7, Toronto 6 (1st Game)

BALTIMORE, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- David Newhan delivered a bases-loaded, two-out single in the ninth Wednesday to give Baltimore a 7-6 victory over Toronto in a doubleheader opener.

Rafael Palmeiro added two homers as Baltimore won its fifth in six games.

Carlos Delgado had a two-run homer in the seventh for Toronto and Russ Adams had a solo shot in the eighth to bring the Blue Jays back from a three-run deficit.

Adams, however, threw the ball away while trying to force a runner at second base in the ninth, helping Baltimore load the bases.

B.J. Ryan (4-6) got the win by working a scoreless top of the ninth.
