Bucs Charlie Garner out for season

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Running back Charlie Garner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had surgery on his right knee Monday and is sidelined for the season.

Garner was injured in the second quarter of Sunday night's 30-20 loss at Oakland. While planting for a cut on a 1-yard loss, the knee gave way. He suffered a torn tendon and had to be carted off the field.

"We're all dejected; we're all down," Coach Jon Gruden said at his weekly news conference. "(But) there are a lot of games left. I think we've got a chance to be a heck of a football team if we can put it together. We've got to have some guys step up."

Tampa Bay is 0-3.

Before the injury, Garner gained eight yards on six carries. The 11-year veteran also has played for Philadelphia, the Raiders, and San Francisco. He has rushed for 7,094 yards and 39 touchdowns on 1,537 carries in his career.
