PISCATAWAY, N.J., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Rutgers signed Gary Waters to coach the Scarlet Knights basketball team through 2010, the school announced Thursday.
Waters has coached the team three years. He was given a two-year extension on the seven-year deal he signed initially.
The Scarlet Knights were 20-13 last season.
"Gary has done a superb job of guiding and improving our men's basketball program in his three years at Rutgers," said Athletic Director Robert E. Mulcahy III.
"This past season, Waters led us to Rutgers' first 20-win season in more than 20 years and to the title game of the NIT. This marked the first time in school history that Rutgers has appeared in the championship game of a national tournament."
Waters has an overall record of 50-42 at Rutgers. He previously coached at Kent State.
