Saints' running back could miss five weeks

NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister has a high ankle sprain and could be out of action up to five weeks.

McAllister was injured in the first quarter of Sunday's 30-27 win over San Francisco and had to be carted off the field.

In two games this season, McAllister has rushed for 58 yards on 19 carries.

"He's in a boot and on crutches for precautionary reasons," Saints Coach Jim Haslett said Monday. "It's the ligament, there's no break. They don't have to do surgery."

In 48 career games (35 starts), the four-year pro out of Mississippi has gained 3,177 yards and 22 touchdowns on 708 carries.
