MLB: Detroit 3, Cleveland 1

DETROIT, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Mike Maroth pitched 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball Monday to help the Detroit Tigers to post a 3-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians.

Dmitri Young and Brandon Inge homered and Craig Monroe finished 3-for-4 for Detroit.

Maroth (11-11) scattered six hits as the lefthander won for the first time in his last six starts.

Lefthander Scott Elarton (3-5) took the loss for the Tribe, giving up three runs on seven hits.

Coco Crisp and Ben Broussard each had two hits for Cleveland, which has dropped seven of its last nine games.

The Tigers grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in this one in the bottom of the first inning on Young's 17th home run of the season.

Inge led off the Detroit fourth with his 12th homer of the year for a 3-0 advantage.
