KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- DeShaun Foster ran for 174 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries Sunday to lead the Carolina Panthers to a 28-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jake Delhomme completed 16-of-29 passes for 180 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions for the defending NFC-champion Panthers (1-1).
Carolina played without All-Pro running back Stephen Davis, who had arthroscopic knee surgery on Friday.
Trent Green was only 17-of-34 for 187 yards with an interception for the Chiefs (0-2), who lost their first two games of the season for the first time since 2001.
Priest Holmes had 66 rushing yards and a score for Kansas City, which saw its club-record 13-game home winning streak halted.
Carolina grabbed a 14-10 lead as it scored on its first possession of the third quarter. The Panthers went 80 yards in 16 plays, capped by a nine-yard touchdown reception by Keary Colbert.
