Redman (11-12) allowed four walks, but just one run en route to the victory. He was aided by an Athletics' bullpen that faced seven batters, and allowed no hits while fanning six. Octavio Dotel struck out all three batters he faced for his 22nd save.

Seattle grabbed the lead in the third inning. Jose Lopez hit a one-out double, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Randy Winn's single.

Oakland's Erubiel Durazo tied the game in the fourth, as he hit his 33rd double of the season to drive in Jermaine Dye. An inning later, Oakland grabbed the lead as Byrnes scored again, this time on an Eric Chavez single.
