Spadea, Mello in Delray Beach final

DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- American Vince Spadea and Brazilian Ricardo Mello won in straight sets Saturday to advance to the title match at the International Tennis Championships.

Spadea, 30, beat countryman Jeff Salzenstein 6-1, 6-3 to reach his second ATP Tour singles final of 2004. He was a winner earlier in the year at Scottsdale when he claimed his first-ever tour championship.

Earlier Saturday, Mello ousted third-seeded and Wimbledon semifinalist Mario Ancic 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 to appear in his first career ATP singles final.

Mello fought off three set points in the opening set.
