MLB: St. Louis 4, Arizona 3

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Jim Edmonds tripled home Albert Pujols in the ninth inning Friday night to give St. Louis a 4-3 decision over Arizona.

The Cardinals reduced their magic number for clinching the National League Central to three.

John Mabry and Mike Matheny each had a solo homer for the Cardinals, who lost a one-run lead in the top of the ninth before winning it in the bottom half of the inning.

Jason Isringhausen failed to record what would have been his 43rd save of the season when pinch-runner Andy Green scored from first on Alan Zinter's double.

But Pujols walked to start the bottom of the ninth and Edmonds delivered his game-winning shot to the wall.
