MLB: NY Mets 7, Atlanta 0

NEW YORK, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Kris Benson pitched his first shutout of the season Tuesday to give the New York Mets a 7-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

Benson (12-11) allowed only four hits and struck out seven.

David Wright homered among his three hits for the Mets, who won for just the fourth time in 20 games.

The Mets opened the scoring when Wright led off the second inning with a home run.

Russ Ortiz (14-8) lost for the first time in eight road decisions. Ortiz gave up seven runs on nine hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings.

New York got solo home runs from Eric Valent and Cliff Floyd in the third inning to push the advantage to 3-0. Floyd scored two innings later on an RBI single by Wright to give the Mets a 4-0 lead.

New York had a three-run sixth on RBI singles by Jeff Keppinger, Floyd and Mike Piazza.
